Who is suitable for dental veneers?
Suitable situations for placing veneers include :
- Chipped or worn down teeth
- Teeth with spaces
- Teeth which are mildly crowded or malaligned
- Heavily stained teeth for which teeth whitening is not helpful eg Tetracycline staining
What does the process involve?
2 visits are all that is required to fabricate veneers. During the first visit, the teeth are roughened in order to allow the veneers to adhere to the tooth structure. A mould is taken which is then sent to the laboratory for fabrication of the porcelain. Once the veneers are ready, they are cemented onto the front surfaces of the teeth irreversibly.
If well taken care of, veneers can last 10-15 years.
Do dental veneers need any kind of special care?
Good oral hygiene practices including brushing and flossing will ensure that the veneers last a long time. Veneers, like your natural tooth structure, can chip or break if it is subject to heavy biting and large forces and patient should avoid these.
